The Pressure On The Bottom Reading Is The One That Is High. What Does It Mean?
ok so i have been having my bp checked for the last 5 weeks weekly, also had blood tests and various other things checked like weight etc.. all normal. im told that the pressure on the bottom reading is the one that is high, my doctor did explain this to me..... but can anyone help and tell me what could be causing this???? thank u. also im not particularly stressed, nothing in my life has rly changed.. thanks andy g.... fab input and looking at your previous questions i really do not think you have the right to comment on others!!!
The bottom reading - the Diastolic reading - is the pressure in your blood vessels when your heart is not doing anything. if you use the analogy of an inner tube on a bicycle wheel, too hard a pressure makes the tyre more likely to burst if subjected to damage, whereas a tyre at the right pressure can flex more and maybe avoid or absorb damage.
Main causes of high diastolic pressures are too much salt, which increases the amount of fluid you retain, narrowing of the vessels due to disease, (deposits on the lining, such as fatty sticky stuff from a bad diet) or stricture (narrowing due to other causes).
