The Skin Area Of My Left Lower Leg And Ankle

The skin area of my left lower leg and ankle is thin and extremely dry. In the past month some sores have started to develop in the form of thickened scabs. With continued cleansing and adding moisturizer for damaged skin, the sores slowly and eventually heal. However a new one always seems to appear. I have type 2 diabetes but take prescription meds to control. Could this be caused by the diabetes and if so how can I treat it so as to keep new sores from occurring?
