You can only protect the hair which remains.
Start by massaging the
scalp with your fingertips thoroughly at least twice a day. Do this first thing in the morning, when you are in the washroom and before bed.
Avoid hats or anything which blocks the hair. Also, chemicals such as hair spray and any other brands which alter your natural hair. Do not iron your hair or blow dry and avoid using a towel to dry your hair.
Use a clean shirt which is 100% cotton and gently soft dry the hair. Be gently and dry it as much as you can while allowing the hair to dry naturally afterwards. Stay indoors until your hair is completely dried before going outside. Wet hair is more fragile and vulnerable to damage.
Do not go swimming as chlorine burns the skin and hair by removing its natural minerals and health.
Avoid going out in the rain and if you must, use an umbrella. As for snow, it can't be prevented but do not wear a hat. Simply, shampoo your hair afterwards in the evening.
Do not comb your hair and if you must, use a wide tooth comb.
Make sure your hair is completely dry after rinsing it before going to bed or engaging in anything. The hair is extremely fragile at this state and needs to dry on its own without any interruptions.
The most important, condition your hair with an all natural conditioner. These are more expensive than brand names but at least they provide more support for the hair. Use the same brand of a natural product and know that the less the aroma it has, the better it is for your hair. Rinse your hair in
cold water when using a shampoo and conditioner. The purpose of the shampoo is to clean your hair from dirt and other buildups. Shampoo first and condition afterwards and follow this guideline. Shampoo takes out the residue and provides that natural healthy look while conditioner gives it the nutrients and moisture it requires. When you condition, make sure you use a decent amount and
massage it into your scalp gently, evenly and work it into your bangs and the rest of your hair gently. Don't tug or pull and rinse your hair with cold water. Massage again while rinsing for the water to penetrate deep within the pores. Cold water closes the pours while warm water only opens them. Also, warm water only makes your hair more curly and heat is not good for hair.
