Three Wires Removed From Right Hand After An Injury. Trouble Removing Horizontal Wire And Is Very Painful.
Roughly 24 hours since I ve had 3 k wires removed from my right hand after a meta karple based injury. Two wires run vertically and one ran through horizontally. I m having immense pain in the hand to the point were after 4 weeks of injury this is by far the most painful! The nurse had trouble removing the horizontal wire and this feels like the area of pain Dan
Hi, K-wires can be very painful to have removed and then the fracture site can be painful for a few days. This is because the bones are very sensitive. The treatment is to take plenty of pain-killers. Paracetamol and ibuprofen would be the first line treatment, followed by codeine or tramadol if needed. Keep your hand moving as much as possible to avoid stiffness persisting. You are likely to feel better soon. Regards, Dr K A Pottinger, MBChB FRCA
