Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
how do you get rid of a salt and ice burn? i did the salt and ice challenge on thursday and i regret it now. my graduation is in 18 days and i REALLY want it to be gone by then. do you recommend any burn creams? i know it is actually frostbite but it looks and feels like a burn. any tips to speed up the process of healing?
From your description it appears that you have developed a chemical burn due to a hyper-osmotic effect of the salt. You description also indicates that it was a 2nd degree burn. Based on this, you should not develop a scar or other permanent damage, unless it gets infected.
It the skin is peeling already - remove the detached skin completely and keep the area clean with a sterile water (over the counter) and keep the area covered with a bandage for 2-3 days with BACITRACIN ointment. Then, just keep it clean with soap and water. Depending on the area of the body it should heal completely in 1-2 weeks (a pink spot may remain for a few more weeks, but it will dissipate).
Hope this helps
