Toe Nail Throbbing, Brownish Liquid Leaking. Applied Alcohol. Problem?
When I came back from a 5hour figure skating lesson, my toe nail was throbbing. It has been black for awhile now. After about two hours it stopped hurting. I decided to practice my ballet technique since I have a recital soon. When I reached down to put my shoes on, I noticed brownish liquid leaking out from beneath my toenail. When I pressed down on it gently, even more brown liquid came out. I went hysterical. At the end, my dad forced me to cut off half my nail. He then put rubbing alcohole on the
part without a nail. It didn't hurt one bit.My mom told me I'm going to have to cut my toe off but I think she's just messing with me. But what happened? Did my dad do the right thing? He's not a doctor so I'm not sure. Will I be alright? My toe is throbbing but very very softly that I almost can't feel it. Thank you:/

Thanks for writing in.
You have said that you are practising figure skating and I assume you have been doing that for quite some time. Coming to your toe nail, it looks like due to your rigorous practise sessions, your toe nail might have got injured some time back. All this while it went unnoticed because it was painless. I would recommend that you see a surgeon at the earliest.
Cutting half the nails is a crude form of treating it. We really dont know if any infection has developed beneath the nail. Your mother is not messing with you but she must be thinking of extreme conditions. Please contact your doctor soon.
