Dear Mr Rajgopalan,
what you are suffering from (joint swelling and pain) is not diabetic neuropathy at all. You seem to have arthritis of some reason. Please show to an orthopedic surgeon and get evaluated for this arthritis for appropriate and sureshot treatment.
Inj Methylcobalamin is just fine and you can always take it with the help of your local doctor but I am afraid that it will not relieve you from the pain or swelling as I feel you might have been treated with Inj Methyl-prednisolone (which is a steroid) in the past at MIOT hospital and not inj Methycobal. Please check your prescription carefully and let me know.
In short, you need to evaluate and take proper treatment from a good Orhtopedic doctor. Take care and get back for any further related query.
Hi,
welcome to HCM,
You are having diabetic neuropathy in which there is peripheral neuropathy, they commonly have numbness or burning or pins or needles in there feet.
Treatment is by various modalities B12 injection is one of them, but pain and swelling in ankle may be due to trauma or some pathology in feet so please see a orthopedic surgeon to rule out other cause than neuropathy if it is due to neuropathy this can be taken in oral form also.
Please keep good control of blood sugar as it also helps in neuropathy.
One can take injections also, there is no harm.
Please take care.
Good Luck
thank you.
diabetic neuropathy is one of the common complication of diabetes mellitus.
strict glycemic control is mandatory with drug, diet control & exercise.
some drugs are helpful to reduce the neuropathic pain like pregabaline, gabapantine etc.
vit b12(mythecabol) is sometimes useful.
it is usually given for long time.
