Treatment For Head Injury After A Hit

My son hit his head in a hotel by the pool he has dilated pupils and a knot on his head he is sleeping now. I did get him up and asked his name and where we were and his brothers name and birthday. He knew them all. We are out of town should he go to the hospital?

I can understand your concern. Your son head injury seems mild injury. Only problem is dilated pupils. Have you checked those pupils while he was sleeping, then it is ok. During sleep, our pupils remain dilated as they are covered. Pupil dilatation is serious if it occurs in light or it dose not constrict on torch light examination. So recheck pupils and if you still have any doubts, consult neurosurgeon.
As per history, his consciousness and orientation seem to be normal. That is good. You must also observe any vomiting, nausea, persistent headache, any ear, nose or throat bleed. If your son has any of these symptoms, consult neurosurgeon.
