Treatment For Itchy, red Rash On Chest

Itchy, red skin here and there--chest, back, abdomen
Started three new meds in hospital 10 days ago for 2nd heart ablation: amiodarone, metoprolol, cardia (cardezem) Noticed a couple of areas of rash on skin in hospital. Told nurse. She said to keep an eye on it. Now it has spread. Am taking benydril and am putting hydrocortisone cream here and there on skin to help the itching . That works well enough. Is there anything else to do about this? I was told I'd be on these meds for 3 months. So far, the antihistamine and, I think, the hydrocortisone take care of most of the itching. Heart rhythm normal now. I see the electrocardiologist 10 days, Have had rash for 10 days. (Age 65, retired, female.)

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi,

I can understand your concern for the itchy, red rash on chest. There can be multiple possibilities of the itching and a close physical examination is necessary to rule out the exact reason for same.

The only precaution you must follow is not to touch, pinch pop or squeeze any of them other wise it can get infected and can cause complications.

If I were your treating dermatologist then would have contimued you to apply hydrocortisone cream. You can additionally take antihistamine like loratadine rather than benadryl by mouth as benadryl is bit sedating antihistamine. Go for your routine blood test and check for any abnormality in blood profile.

Take care.
