Trouble Emptying Bladder, Elevated PSA. Had Cath Tube Placed. Done Ultrasound, Blood Tests. Burning Sensation Due To Cath Normal?
My husband just had a cath tube placed for one month to see why his bladder is not emptying. They took out 500 after they did an ultra sound, they said this will help shrink the bladder. Another ultra sound showed the kidneys were fine, as well as the blood test. He does have an elevated PSA 5.1 it has been higher in the past. Our question is should this cath still be burning and hurting him after 5 days.or should he call his physician. Thank you
hi there, your husband seems to to have obstructive uropathy which in concordance with the raised PSA levels is suggestive of a prostatic hyperplasia. The catheter will help in evacuating the bladder but the burning or hurting should not be there and is suggestive of an infection. Do consult your urologist and he may start your husband on a low dose prophylactic antibiotics to take care that the infection does not recur. The catheter will need to be replaced every 10-15 days or more frequently if required. Take care.
