Twitching In Eyes For A Month, Has Abrasions In Eye. Applying Systane Drops. Suggestions?

My left eyelid both top and bottom twitch throughout the day sporatically. I can just be talking and it starts twitching. This has been going on for at least a month may be longer. This happened when I was younger also, but it stopped and now it seems to have come back. Its only the left eye. This eye is also the same one that I have had two abrasions in and I put Systane drops in every night to lubricate the left eye.

HI and thank for the query,

Twitching and abrasions might really have nothing in common. It is important to know if you do experience twitching elsewhere. Factors that trigger the twitching, presence or absence of pain during the twitch are important considerations to think about.

Lack of certain ions like Calcium and magnesium could explain some of these symptoms. Other diseases like myaesthenia gravis and chronic inflammatory eye diseases are all possibilities. I suggest a careful examination by your eye specialist/opthalmologist.

Kind regards, Bain lE, MD
