Two Friends Of Mine, Who Both Worked In Close Proximity

Two friends of mine, who both worked in close proximity of each other, have died in the last year of MND. One was 67, the other was 58. The chances of this pretty rare disease hitting two guys who worked together for 20 years and them both dying within a year is pretty slim. Is there no possibility that this disease is non-contagious? A few years ago no one believed that stomach ulsers were caused by bacteria.
