Ulcerative Colitis And Diagnosed Alien Colitis. On Vegaz OD. Further?

I am the patient of ulcerative colitis and diagnose alien colitis in left side. I had taken medicine like pentasa , mesacol OD,entafoam, mesacoal enema, supotives and now I am taking VEGAZ OD from last 4 years. please advise me on issues like is this disease curable with these medicines, am i taking the right medicines (as specified above), what are the side effects of various medicines taken to cure this disease, what are the precautions that can be taken as far as diet is considered to keep the condition stable.

Hi ,
Ulcerative Colitis is a inflamatory bowel disease its cause is unkown (Idiopathic) and is a chronic disease but can be controlled with drugs.If there is a family history then it is more common and some food allergy or infections research is going on to find the cause it is more common in nonsmoker? Some blood test like HLA B27,HLA DR-2 has been found to be associated with the disease. You are taking correct treatment Mesalazine (Vegaz OD). As disease may remain stable for long time some time it may become severe that steroids may be required . If Milk allergy or lactose intolerance is there avoid milk .If you have loose motions do not take OTC medicines. Be in touch with gastroenterologist.Take care of nutrition like vitamins keep your Haemoglobin level to optimal level.Keep a watch on liver function kidney function and blood clotting.
