Unable To Walk Due To Swollen Bumps On My Shin And Ankles. Can Neurofibromatosis Cause This Problem?
I have swollen bumps on my shin and my ankles will swell to the point they hurt so bad I can not walk. They have taken X-rays and did not notice a problem and I have orthotics, which don't seem to help. I am wondering what could be the problem? I have been diagnosed with neurofibromatosis and I don't know if that could play a part in any of this.
Like you mentioned you are suffering from neurofibromatosis, the painful swelling you are getting is called plexiform neurofibroma and it is found in around 40% patients having neurofibromatosis.
If caught in early stages, it could be removed successfully. I'd suggest you to go see a surgeon as soon as possible. They'll get a biopsy / a MRI scan to confirm the diagnosis and excise the mass. Once excised they rarely recur on the same spot.
Hope I helped.
