Undergone Blood Transfusions, Abnormality In Barium Test, Chest X-ray. No Internal Bleeding Found In Test. Diagnosis?
My husband was just in the hospital and had 4 blood transfusions. he had no bleeding from colonoscopy, upper GI or barium test. He is in the process of having a test scheduled where he will swallow a camera. What types of things can be found as a result. He obviously is bleeding from somewhere but none of the tests thus far have indicated bleeding. He also had an MRI of his lung on Friday as an abnormality showed up on the barium test and subsequent chest x-ray,. He has never smoked.
As colonoscopy and gastroscopy haven't showed any bleeding source, the most probable reason is small intestine malformation. Its a kind of area where blood vessels is located in the intestine wall and when gets injured (by a stool) starts bleeding. If so, he should have blood in stools (rather tarry like than red). Camera swallow most likely wont give an accurate answer about bleeding source (it will show a blood in the intestine). That is why, much better test for your husband is angiography-CT. This test can show exact source of bleeding.
What kind of pathology showed up in the X-ray? Was it a tumor? If so, he should consult thoracic surgeon and have biopsy of it.
Hope this will help. Regards.
