Unhappy, Not Acting Normally. Diagnosed With ADHD. Taking Guanfacine. Side Effect Of Medicine?

My granddaughter has been diagnosed with ADHD and is taking Guanfacine 1mg. (1/2 in am; 1/2 in afternoon; 1/2 at bedtime. She tends to have these very unhappy times when she tells you shes frustrated, she hates you, she wants you to go away but then when you do she cries for you to come back; sometimes hits, throws things, etc. It's hard to see her react like this - is this a side effect of this drug?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query.

You have not mentioned the age of your granddaughter. It is very difficult to conclude if this behaviour is a part of her problem or the effect of the medicines till one examines and goes through the detailed history. I suggest that you discuss this issue with the treating doctor who will be in a better position to guide you further. Such children need to be handled patiently.

I hope I have answered your query to your satisfaction.

Wishing your granddaughter all the best.

Regards,
