Upper Gumline Bone Is Protruding On Right Side Of Mouth, Hard Painful Bump On Left. Why Is It ?

I noticed about three days ago on he right side of my mouth on my upper gumlime the bone seems to protrude farther than the left also there is a hard painful bump at the very top back corner that feels like bone rubbing against my gum. Ive used chewing tobacco in the past and have recently stopped, also I used to grind my teeth at a younger age

hi

first of all just make sure that you don't chew tobacco again... because its very harmful your oral cavity and general health also...

secondly visit your dentist for proper examination of your gingival enlargement which include its size, color, consistency and its extent...

if the enlargement is reddish pink in color and is soft in consistency, scaling and root planing and gingivoplasty (contouring your gingiva) will be required...

in case the enlargement is firm in consistency, it will require gingivectomy after scaling and root planing... and the specimen will then be send for biopsy...

same examination is required for your hard painful bump at last corner... which seems to be abscess... in that case your dentist will drain it... otherwise one of the above two procedures mentioned will be required depending on the condition of your swelling...

hope it will help...

take care....

THANKS FOR THE QUERY. AS PER YOUR COMPLAINT NO BONY LESION CAN GROW TO THE LIMIT OF A PROTRUSION IN FEW DAYS. THE SWELLING YOU HAVE IS PROBABLY DUE TO INFECTED POCKETS. SOMETIMES COLLECTION OF PUS FEELS FIRM WHILE TOUCHING. AS YOU HAVE A RECENT HISTORY OF CHEWING TOBACCO, IT IS NOT UNUSUAL THAT YOU HAVE STAINS, CALCULUS, PERIODONTAL DISORDERS INCLUDING POCKET FORMATION. IT IS POSSIBLE TO HAVE AN ACUTE EXACERBATION OF THOSE CHRONIC PERIODONTAL AILMENTS. YOU SHOULD VISIT YOUR DENTIST AS SOON AS POSSIBLE FOR PROPER DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT.

Hello,

Thanks for writing to us.

The gums are ulcerated due to the habit of tooth grinding or periodontal infection.

A thorough scaling has to be done.

Use soft interdental toothbrush as well as chlorhexidine mouthrinses.

Maintain oral hygiene well.

Plenty of fruits as well as fluids has to be administered.

Take care.
