Urinary Hesitancy From Opioids For Interstitial Cystitis. Prescribed Myrbetrix. Right Medication?
Hi ihave some urinary hesitancy from opioids I take for iinterstitial cystitis ,and my Doctor rxd. Myrbetrix for this but im afraid of more hesitancy as some overactive meds have caused this in the past. My doc says this medicine is different but I know my body and an afraid it could worsen things i I have bad urge and varying hesitancy at times Is this med worth the risk ? is it different than the anti cholinergics? How long will it take to leave my system (just in case) Thx very much! Kathy I
Myrbetriq is used to treat urinary symptoms because it reduces muscle spasms from the bladder and urinary tract.
It is not an anticholinergic but acts on different receptors or areas of the urinary tract. Because of this , it would be associated with a different side effect profile that may not bother you or affect you significantly.
In terms of elimination , the half life of the drug is 50 hours. The half life is the time it take for the amount of medication in a persons system to decrease by half. In general it is thought that it takes 3 to 4 half lives for a medication to be completely eliminated. This would mean that it would take 150 hours to 200 hours which would equate to 6 to 8 days.
I hope this helps
