Used Birth Control. Missed Two Pills. Had Unprotected Sex. Bleeding Bright Red. Missed Pills? Pregnant?

I started using birth control a week and a day ago, i have missed two pills since then but not back to back. But I had unprotected sex on my five week postpartum. And have been having unprotected sex since then. I am now bleeding bright red sometimes more than just spotting, is it cause of the missed pills or could it be the pills just aren't right for me, or am I pregnant. Please help.

hello,

In the postpartum period, if you are on breast feeding exclusively, there will be lactational amenorrhea and it gives more than 98% protection against unwanted pregnancy. Though mild spotting or bleeding is quite common during this period due to hormonal imbalance.

Second thing, irregular taking of the pill can cause the same finding and is less effective in preventing pregnancy.

Here, I suggest you to undergo one blood test of beta-HCG to rule out product of conception if any. Following test report, you should consult with gynecologist for next line of management.

Good luck.
