hello. I gave birth 10 weeks ago and had my first menstrual last april 29. everything has been normal since...i had my lochia and it stopped by my 3rd week postpartum. had my first pap smear last may 11. however, yesterday i noticed that my discharge (very little) smells fishy. I am quite dry but when i touch my vagina and smell my discharge, that's when i noticed the fishy smell. what could it be? my pap came out normal.

Hello and welcome to HCM.

Thank you for your query.

It is normal for you to experience quite a few changes, especially post-partum, but everything shall soon normalize. I hope you understand this.

But, a fishy smell from the vagina is normally considered to be a sign of an infection. Infections to be considered are:
-Bacterial vaginosis
-Chlamydia
-Yeast infections
and a few others.

Please note that you should have other symptoms like a vaginal discharge of a particular color and consistency, itching around the genitals, burning sensation while urinating, etc.

So this smell could just be normal (as it is minimal), which might soon subside. You could wait for a day or two, and if the smell does not subside or worsens, then visit your doctor; or visit your doctor now just to be on the safer side.

I hope I have succeeded in providing the information you were looking for. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications. I would gladly help you.

Best wishes.
