Hello and welcome to HCM.
Thank you for your query.
If your husband had
vomiting and
diarrhea and was diagnosed with an infection, he should have been prescribed antibiotic therapy to treat the same. This will start taking action and along with probiotics should help in relief within 24 hours. Although mild symptoms might still be present.
Most patients who have suffered from diarrhea for a long time do not consume anything orally, this as a result can lead to
tenesmus (urge to pass stool, but no stool expeled).
Most vital is to see to it that he doesn't get dehydrated. An oral rehydration sachet or tetra pack should be given to keep him hydrated.
The gurgling and increased gas production is normally seen with a
stomach infection, do not worry. Please start on the antibiotic medication at the earliest, and finish the course even if the symptoms seem to have subsided. Give oral rehydration top priority.
I hope I have succeeded in answering your questions, you could write back to me anytime for further clarifications.
Best wishes.
