Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
We have go the MRI of my father done today, MRI of brain, and MRI of cervical spinal, He is experiencing pain in upper left side of body, from neck to complete hand, and also head pain problem. MRI of brain shows conclusion- Few lacunar ischemic foci in bilateral cerebral hemispher. MRI of Cervical spine shows conclusion- 1) There is ossification of posterior longitudinal ligament from C3 to C6 level, 2) The vertebral bodies are normal in height and signal intensity. The posterior element are normal. 3) C3-4 disc shows diffuse posterior buldge with posterior osteophytes, the disc osteophyte complex and ossified posterior longitudinal ligament are seen effacting anterior subarachnoid space narrowing spinal canal abutting spinal cord and compressing bilateral existing nerve roots. Ligamentum falvum hypertrophy is also seen at this level narrowing spinal canal. Residual spinal canal diameter at this level measure 7.5 mm in AP dimension. III defined T2 hyperintense edema is also seen in spinal cord at this level. 4) C4-5 disc shows diffuse posterior buldge with left paracentral and foraminal protrusion and posterior osteophytes, the disc osteophyte complex and ossified posterior longitudinal ligament are seen effacting anterior subarachnoid space narrowing spinal canal compressing spinal cord and compressing bilateral existing nerve roots (left>right). Ligamentum falvum hypertrophy is also seen at this level narrowing spinal canal. Residual spinal canal diameter at this level measure 6mm in AP dimension. 5)C5-6 disc shows diffuse posterior buldge with left posterocentral and right paracentral protrusion and posterior osteophytes, the disc osteophyte complex and ossified posterior longitudinal ligament are seen effacting anterior subarachnoid space narrowing spinal canal compressing spinal cord and abuttng left and compressing right existing nerve roots. Ligamentum falvum hypertrophy is also seen at this level narrowing spinal canal. Residual spinal canal diameter at this level measure 4.0mm in AP dimension. 6) C6-7 disc shows diffuse posterior buldge with small posterocentral protrusion compressing anterior subarachnoid space.
We consulted an orthopaedic, He said if pain doesn't go on medication we have to do operation,
Please if anyone can suggest Operation is necessary or not? We can cure it on medication or not?
