Hey doctors! I have some questions regarding being held within a mental hospital against your will. I know someone who is currently a minor and was threatened, by their mother, that if they didn’t go, the mother would call the police. The minor is a danger to them self, and has been very verbal about not wanting to be in a mental facility. The mother told the child “one week”, however, the mother plans on keeping them there for closer to six months. The minor has been forced to go into a mental hospital before, so this isn’t their first time. The minors other family all agree that this will potentially do more harm then good. I would like advice about what I, a legal adult who is related to this minor, is able to do. Truthfully, I want to get her out as soon as possible. The minor has been offered other places to stay by family members and friends. Is there anything I can do?
