What Alternative Of Codeine Can Be Taken For Treatment Of Pain After Surgery?
I was prescribed Norco for after gall bladder removal surgery. This has traces of Codeine in it. I am allergic to Codeine. I tried 1/4 tablet & had side effects. What pain medication can I take for after surgery that will be strong enough to manage the pain without any Codeine in it?
Hello - there are some recent studies that NSAIDs (ibuprofen, naproxen, ketorolac) combined with acetaminophen, can be effective in post-surgical pain management and reduce the need for use of opiates such as codeine. Here is an example of a recent study on this: https://bjanaesthesia.org/article/S0007-0912(17)30112-5/pdf
