Dear Ma'am, Hi & Welcome to HCM.
I can understand your concern.
Since you are not able to tolerate Prolia (Denosumab) because of the 'horrific' side effects. Other drugs can be taken after consulting your physician or
endocrinologist like:
1.
Selective estrogen receptor modulator (SERM) Raloxifen which can be used for the prevention and treatment of
osteoporosis in postmenopausal women, although it may be less effective in preventing bone loss than
bisphosphonates or estrogen.
2. FORTEO (Teriparatide) is indicated for the treatment of postmenopausal women with osteoporosis at multiple risk factors for fracture, or patients who have failed or are intolerant to other available osteoporosis therapy. In postmenopausal women with osteoporosis like in your case.
3. Calcitonin nasal spray which has an additional pain relieving effect is also effective.
4. Bisphosphonates are medications that slow the breakdown and removal of bone. They are widely used for the prevention and treatment of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
Along with the medications you need to take Vitamin D and
Calcium supplements, milk, regular exercise, to avoid alcohol and smoking (if any).
Hope the suggestions given above would be useful.
