What Are Fluconazole And Ciprofloxacin Prescribed For?

my doctor said that I had a yeast infection and prescribe me a fluconazole 150mg tablet and Ciprofloxacin 500mg. Did a urinalysis and the results were negative for any type of STD, what was the actual purpose for the medications. I have a clear discharge now instead of cloudy and a slight itching after I urinate even after I took the medication as directed. Is it possible that I may have been reinfected? I am on several prescribed medications such as: promethazine, Keppra, Lisinopril, Clonazepam, Dexilant, Lunesta, Atorvastatin, and Testosterone Cypionate. I have been with my wife for 15 years.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Fluconazole is used to treat yeast infection and ciprofloxacin for bacterial infections, not usually STD unless other meds cannot be used.

Yeast infections are not detected by urinalysis and they are not tested for in STD so none of these tests would have been used for the yeast infection.
A plain urinalysis cannot also detect an STD.

Urine can be used for the STD, chlamydia or gonorrhea but none of the other STDs can be picked up this way. In addition the urine for these infections would need to be sent to a lab for analysis.

Herpes, HIV, syphilis, hepatitis all require blood tests to be done.

You may need to go back to your doctor for assessment. Urine may need to be sent to the lab for more in depth review to determine the exact source of your symptoms.

I hope this helps
