What Are Chances Of Having Diabetes During Pregnancy?
hi doctor, i am 25 weeks pregnant. My ultrasound scan says that my baby boy is 950gms. I went to the doctor on the 5th of march and sugar in my urine was+3. the doctor pricked me to check my blood sugar and it was 5.2. my next check up was on the 15th of march and again my sugar level in the urine 3+. the doctor has suggested a GTT test in my next visit after 2 weeks. what are chances of having diabetes? My weight before pregnancy was 63 and now it is 83. I dont have a history of diabetes in the family and during all my previous checkups, my sugar level was nil. Kindly advice regarding the reasons for this condition and what i should do now. Thanks
Dear madam i can understand your concern in my opinion the appearance of sugar in urine is quite normal in pregnancy its mainly because of decrease of renal threshold for glucose excretion during pregnancy. Now its become mandatory to check for GGT during pregnancy to ensure safety of baby. i strongly feel that the chance of diabetes is very low for you based on your history but kindly get the GTT done Hope I was able to help you. If you have any further question feel free to write me back. I will be happy to help. Take care. Best Regards. Dr Vamsi Krishna Consultant Diabetologist Apollo Hospitals
