What Are Cramps And Pinkish Discharge During Urination Suggestive Of?

I was at work and I was unable to get to the bathroom so I held it for a while. When I finally went I used the bathroom I wiped and noticed a really light pinkish discharge on the toilet paper. I also had a little cramping with a little bit of backache. The backache went away but I am still cramping a little. More on the lower left side. I also moved my bowels twice since then. Should I be worried? Please help me..

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Holding a bowel movement for any reason may cause Constipation. In your case as per your explanation it strongly suggests Constipation.
In case of Constipation stool becomes hard due absorption of water by large intestine, and while act of bowel movement, it requires little bit high pressure to pass the motion. Due to high pressure and hard stool, minor trauma may occur to anal sphincter which may shows fresh blood stains on toilet paper.
Sometimes, despite of normal regular bowel movement you may find fresh blood stains. In that case 'Anal Fissure' or 'Piles' strongly suspected. At that time thorough Rectal examination by General Surgeon or Coloproctologist is mandatory, where treating physician will examine thoroughly and may advise some more advance tests and treatment.
In your case if cramping is aggravating then you should visit to Primary physician or General Surgeon as soon as possible.

Thanks & Take Care,
Dr. Suraj D.
