What Are Cramps In Thigh With Swelling In Right Leg Suggestive Of?

I felt dehydrated yesterday afternoon. I drank probably 6 glasses or more of water. Today, I sat through two hours at church and then had jail ministry and sat for 1 1/2 hours. Then got a severe cramp in my thigh. When i got home a few minutes ago after running some errands, I noticed my whole right leg is larger than my left leg. Would water cause that or should I be concerned.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

It is due to muscle spasm known as Charlie horse. It is nothing but violent cramps caused by dehydration. However, other causes also are ruled out.

As of now drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. If swelling persists better to consult a physician and get evaluated. An ultrasound scan is required in case of diagnostic confusion.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
