What Are Discomfort And Tingling In Left Thigh With Numbness Suggestive Of?

I have been dealing with discomfort in my left thigh such as tingling and more importantly burning causing me to have to lift my leg at times to relieve some of the tension. It is very numb and often times sensitive to touch like your foot gets when it has fallen asleep. I have worked in retail from 2006 to 2008 at which it was required to stand or be on my feet 6 hours or more a day. At that time, I felt that burning sensation but never knew what it was. Fast forward to today, I just started back to retail and have been working longer shifts of 6 hours and the numbness and burning feeling has returned. I also found out since 2014 that I am type 2 diabetic. I am 5 6 and currently weigh around 250. Between 2006 and 2008 I weighed around 208 pounds with the complications. I never seen a doctor about it and now that the symptoms are back, I was wondering if it is possible that I could have meralgia parasthetica. Also to note that as of the winter of 2010. I had slipped off my deck and landed on my left hip but never went to get checked out. Thanks

Hello,

Yes, your point of meralgia parasthetica is quite valid and it must be considered in the list of diagnosis.

If the pain is only in the thigh, it may meralgia parasthetica. However, in the context of the history of fall and long-standing job, we should also consider any pinched nerve in the back.

Especially if the pain or numbness is going below the knee or above the waist. I understand you should focus on management of your obesity and diabetes, and get assessed for the pain as well.

We may do a nerve conduction test or MRI if needed to settle the issue. This would also focus on the management of the problem.

Physiotherapy specially may help the problem a lot. There is a certain drug which may help your pain.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
