What Are Effects Of High TSH On Baby During Pregnancy?
Hi,
I am pregnant for 2months and takesn TSH test as suggested by Gyno. My TSH level is 60 and Gyno told us that it would affect baby's brain. Could you please let me kno wthe affects of high TSH during pregnancy an ddoes it affaect baby? Eagerly awaiting reply. Thank you.
Welcome and thank you for asking! High TSH level are risky for both the outcome of pregnancy and the development of the baby. It can lead to spontaneous abortion during the first three months of pregnancy, preterm delivery, complications during delivery ect. About the complications related to the baby, it may affect both the physical and mental development, manifested with growth retardation and a lower IQ level up to severe mental retardation. The higher the TSH the bigger the risk, anyway there are many cases with these TSH level who have had normal pregnancy outcome and normal babies. Hope the information will help. Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
