My twin sister is 56, height 5'6" and weighs 150 pounds. She is a 11 year cancer survivor. She had a mammogram today and is waiting for the results. They think she has "hyperdensities in her breasts. Are they cancer? She wants a double mastectomy it they are. What do u think? Thanks. MF
After hearing your history hyperdensities in breast in mammogram means they have a greater amount of breast and connective tissue compared to fat.
Breast density compares the area of breast and connective tissue seen on a mammogram to the area of fat. Breast and connective tissue are denser than fat and this difference shows up on a mammogram
Women with high breast density are 4-5 times more likely to get breast cancer than women with low breast density.
Since her breast are hyperdense in the mammogram i would advise a biopsy test.
If malignancy is found in the biopsy report then she should go for double mastectomy.
