Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had a major laminectomy from c3-c7 in 2012. So know I m experiencing more problems with my neck. The MRI notes post laminectomy changes and the CT notes post laminectomy defect. When I google terminology, post laminectomy syndrome shows up. Can you please explain which is what?? Thanks
After a spine surgery, an MRI/CT is done to confirm that everything is OK. The radiologists ate required to report the findings in regard to the reason for the scan. In your situation, you had a surgery and the findings reported are those typical of a post laminectomy surgery. It is as expected. Laminectomy means removal of a part of the lamina as part of the treatment. This leaves a gap (defect) in that area of spine & is reported as such.
Post laminectomy syndrome is a complication of the surgery. It is characterized by pain of varying degrees & extent in the part of the body that is supplied by the nerves arising in the area of surgery.
You have no reason to worry based on these reports. Please let me know if this has been helpful. We would be happy to answer any further queries you may have. Wish you good health
