What Are My Chances Of Getting HIV At This Time?

while taking blood from an HIV patient, a drop of blood splashed in to my eyes. I washed my eyes with water for 5 minutes immediately. I went to a doctor, because my friends were saying,there is a possibility of infection. Doctor suggested me Duovir 500MG twice a day. But after taking this medicine, my BP goes down and am not able to work because or tiredness. My doubts are;

1. Is there any need to take this medicine?

2. If there is, why i feel so tired and why my BP goes down?

3. In future,will i have face any problems or side effects due to this drug.

thank you

Hello
Since you are an HEALTH worker and were taking blood form an HIV infected patient .
Unfortunately a drop of blood splashed into your eyes. Since you are a medical personal , so you will understand very well :
Factors that might associated with MUCOCUTANEOUS transmission of HIV include exposure to an unusually LARGE VOLUME ( in your case it was a drop ) , prolonged contact ( but you washed within a second , so no prolong contact ), and a potential portal of entry ( in your case mucous membrane of eyes were a source but entry was not direct ).
In addition , the risk increases for exposure to blood from patients with ADVANCED-STAGE disease ( so judge whether your patient was in which stage of disease ), probably owing to higher titer of HIV in the blood as well as other factors such as the presence of more VIRULENT STRAINS of virus. The use of antiretroviral drugs .
So no doubt you contracted with blood but according to my experiencing I can say that you didn't got any HIV infection .
However , your doctor prescribed duovir , just as a precautionary measure .
No need of any medicine.
Tiredness and BP are low because of trauma which , you are facing as medical personal .
In future , you will not face in problem but take care next time drawing blood from vein.
Hoe this will help you.

2. There might be other reasons for your symptoms , see your physician
3. No , any way your symptoms are not related to the medicine you are taking .
