What Are Painful, Red And Watery Eyes Suggestive Of?
I ve been to the emergency room twice I. The last month. My eyes hurt so bad, red and constant watering. Pain behind my eyes. First visit they said pink eye, that didn t work, went back a week later and they said allergies. Never had allergies in my life. Told me to get over counter allergy medicine and eye drops. That was a week ago. No change. What s wrong with me? I m miserable
I understand your concern. Although I would need a fuller picture of the symptoms you are experiencing, after having excluded pink eye and allergies, and from the degree of pain you describe, I can assume you may be suffering from eye herpes. This is caused by herpes virus 1, the same virus that causes cold sores. Light sensitivity is also a common symptom of this infection. You might also have a corneal ulcer, which is always painful, causes red eyes and eye discharge. In any case, I recommend you see a doctor as soon as possible, as both these conditions may result in sight damage. In the mean time, cool compresses and eye rest is the sensible thing to do.
Wishing you all the best.
