What Are Rapid Pulse Rate, Elevated BP Levels And Heart Palpitations Suggestive Of?
m son 40 yrs old has fast pulse high blood pressure feels heart beating fast in chest has high cholesterol just quit smoking 1 month ago and has cut down from pots of coffee to cups just cut down a month ago on both coffee and smoking these symptoms started after this
An increase in heart rate can be alarming for anyone to experience.
The most common causes are : (1)anemia- low blood count can cause an increased pulse rate because the heart works more as it tries to make up for the decreased oxygen it is carrying. It pumps faster trying to get more blood to the organs
(2)thyroid disease- high levels of thyroid hormone can also cause this problem
(3)heart disease- there are different types of heart conditions that can affect the heart rate
(4)side effect of medication
(5)anxiety
(6)infection particularly if there is a fever
If the increased heart rate continues, then he needs to be assessed. This would consist of a physical examination and blood tests such as complete blood count and thyroid function.
An ECG to take a look at the heart rate and rhythm would also be needed.
Treatment would depend on the cause found.
I hope this helps
