What Are Recurring Sharp Pains In The Back Below The Ribs Suggestive Of?
Hi, my husband just called me (I am at work) worried because he had just experienced a series of three sharp stabbing pains in his back just below his ribs and in his left ankle at the same time. He has type 2 diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol and is on medication for all. He said the pain was so sharp and intense it stopped him in his tracks but the stabbing pains have now stopped. Would you please suggest some possible causes.
The symptoms which you describe points towards disease of spine. It can be due to a slipped disc, or some muscle spasm of back involving nerves or sometimes spondylosis. He will require an MRI of back to diagnose the condition. Treatment will be easy. No worries.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further. Wishing you all the best.
Regards,
Dr. Loveleen Sharma, General & Family Physician
