Hi,
Fetzima (levomilnacipran) is a selective serotonin and
norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor antidepressant (SNRI) commonly prescribed to treat major depression and bipolar disorder. Its common side effects include nausea, and
orthostatic hypotension. Other side effects include: vomiting, constipation,
increased heart rate, palpitations, vomiting, delayed.
When given along with lithium and or amitriptyline it can increase the risk of a serious condition called the
serotonin syndrome, which is characterized by confusion, hallucination, seizure, increased heart rate and blood pressure, fever,
excessive sweating, shivering, blurred vision, muscle stiffness, tremor, stomach cramp, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. In view of the above I advise you to stop giving Fetzima tonight and consult her treating doctor for an alternate effective but a safer medicine to treat her condition.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali, General & Family Physician
