What Are Side Effects Of Propranolol?

Propanolol I was just put on propanolol for heart palpatations. I just took my first pill and my asthma is giving me more issues than ive had in a while. I noticed then it said you shouldnt take this medication if you have asthma. I also read you cant abruptly stop this medication. My question is I have only taken one 20 mg pill. Is it safe for me to stop taking this. I would rather take my chances with the palpatations.

Hi,

Propranolol is a non selective beta blocker which are prescribed for palpitations, reducing blood pressures, etc. But, non selective beta blockers are contra indicated in patients with respiratory diseases such as asthma and COPD. Now a days, cardio-selective beta blockers are prescribed for cardiac conditions. There are studies that the use of beta blockers in patients with respiratory disease with positive and negative outcomes.

But, mostly non selective beta blockers are contraindicated in patients with respiratory disease though this will adapt on chronic use. Management depends on the cause for palpitations. Anti-arrhythmic and other agents are advised depends on the cause for arrythmias. Discuss with your doctor for alternative medication.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
