Hi,

Torvate (also known as sodium valproate) is an anticonvulsant medication used to treat seizures, bipolar disorder, and migraine headaches. Like all medications, Torvate may cause side effects, although not everyone will experience them. Some of the common side effects of Torvate include:
- Nausea and vomiting
- Dizziness
- Drowsiness
- Fatigue
- Tremors
- Weight gain
- Hair loss
- Blurred vision
- Impaired concentration
- Mood swings
- Changes in appetite
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Irregular menstrual periods

Regarding sexual function, some people may experience sexual side effects with Torvate such as a decreased libido or difficulty achieving orgasm. However, these side effects are uncommon.

It is important to note that Torvate can cause serious side effects, such as liver damage, pancreatitis, and birth defects if taken during pregnancy. Therefore, it is important to take this medication only as prescribed by your doctor and to inform your doctor if you experience any side effects while taking it.

If you are concerned about the side effects of Torvate or if you are experiencing any side effects, please consult with your doctor. Your doctor may adjust the dose or suggest an alternative medication if needed.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
