What Are Symptoms Of Viral Fever?
my son is 1.10 years old, suffering from cold and cough from last week. He had fever from last 4 days 101-103°F. For 1st three days of fever as per Dr's prescription we had given Calpol. But no improvement in fever. Two days back Dr. prescribed Meftal-p, on first day three times a day we had given him Meftal-p and he had not fever. But on the second day we had not given him Meftal-p as per Dr's prescription and he had fever ~102°F. Again we had consulted our Dr. and he adviced to continue Meftal-p for today also. I have a question is this a viral/seasonal flu or any other?

Fever of few days without any localizing signs could as well a viral illness. Usually rather than fever, what is more important is the activity of the child, in between 2 fever episodes on the same day. If the kid is active and playing around when there is no fever, it is probably viral illness and it doesn't require antibiotics at all. Once viral fever comes it will there for 4-7 days. So do not worry about duration if the kid is active.
Paracetamol can be given in the dose of 15mg/kg/dose (maximum ceiling dose of 500mg) every 4-6th hourly that too only if fever is more than 100F. I suggest not using combination medicines for fever, especially with Paracetamol.
MEFTAL-P CONTAINS MEFENAMIC ACID WHICH IS A NSAID. IT CARRIES THE RISK OF GASTRITIS AND RENAL PROBLEMS IN THE LONG RUN. PLEASE DO NOT USE MEFTAL-P.
