Tooth demineralization refers to a process where an acidic environment leaches some of the mineral content (such as calcium) out of a tooth's calcified tissues
The acids that cause the demineralization process are produced by specific types of bacteria (primarily lactobacilli and mutans streptococci) that live within dental plaque. The bacteria that cause cavities are living organisms.
The acid that's most instrumental in causing cavities (demineralization) is that which seeps through the plaque and on down to the tooth's surface.

The microenvironmental conditions in the habitats associated with the host health are generallly anaerobic, near neutrality in pH, and positive in oxidation -reduction potential. significant microenvironmental changes are associated with caries and periodontal disease. the changes are the result of the plaqe community metabolism.

upon meeting these factors,all together at a particular time can cause dental caries.numerous bacterias are involved in this process of dental caries.

You are infected with Streptococcus Mutans. S mutans is a bacteria that is common in the human oral cavity.
While brushing and flossing are effective at removing food particles following a meal and at scraping away some of the plaque, Streptococcus mutans is a bacteria – it will come back out of hiding after such oral hygiene and it will continue to thrive, producing it’s tooth-damaging effects.

The major bacteria for causing dental caries is streptococcus mutans, streptococcus viridans, lactobacilli, streptococcus salivarius, actinomyces. Dental caries is caused due to multiple factors like cariogenic bacteria, consumption of refined carbohydrates, poor oral hygiene, malaligned teeth.
Dental Decay is a multifactorial process which requires FOUR components according to the current concept of dental caries.
1. HOST. (that is dental hard tissues)
2. SUBSTRATE (sugary food, sucrose)
3. TIME
4. MICROBES
