What Are The Causes And Treatment For A Puffy And Red Toe?

My 64yr old dad is pretty active, he os on his feet a lot. A couple of days ago he was complaining of toe pain, when my mom looked at his toes they were puffy, red, and flacky. They felt like they were fever. Then the next morning his big toe was blue and gray in color. He has a lot of broken blood vesels going up his calf,at lease thas what it looks like. Any information wwould be greatly appreciated. Thank you

HI.
I hope by this time you have taken him to the hospital and got admitted for intravenous medicines , Color Doppler of the lower limbs and all the relevant investigations..

This looks to me a case of gangrene. All the medical causes have to be ruled out fast.
He may need removal of the diseased part and the causative disease to be kept well under control.
