What Are The Causes For The Ringing Sound In The Ear?

My ears are ringing and when I hear any sort of noise they feel really sensitive, I have a stuffy nose and a chesty cough. I've had a cold before but none included the sore ears, I don't want to go to the doctors becase I feel i've just got the flu but my ears are so painful I don't know what to do, is this normal?

ENT Specialist 's  Response
Hello,
Cold causes nose blockage and inflammation at the back of nose and mucus secretion which trickles down the throat.
The middle part of ear is connected to the back of nose by a tube called as eustachian tube and due to its blockage there could be feeling of heaviness in the ears and ear discomfort.
Similarly when the mucus trickles down the throat the throat gets infected and causes problems like soreness .
You need to consult a doctor.
In case you do not want then try steam inhalation through nose and if available take anti histaminic tablets and decongestant tablets and nasal drops like xylometazoline nasal drops.
In doubt do reply
