Hello
Since you are a medico and doing PG in pathology and handling of such type of products are most common so in detail read this carefully and you will get the answer .
There is a small but definite , occupational risk of
HIV transmission to health care workers ( doctors 0 and laboratory personnel and potentially others who owrks with HIV-containing materials particularly when SHARP OBJECTS are used ( but in your case it was just contact ).
Large multi-institutional studies have indicated that the risk of HIV transmission following skin puncture from a needle or sharp object that WAS contaminated with blood from a person documented HIV infection is less than 0.3 % and a
mucous membrane exposure it is less than 0.09%.
HIV transmission after NON-INTACT skin exposure has been documented , average risk for transmission by this route has not been precisely determined;however, it is estimated to be less than the risk of mucous membrane exposure . TRANSMISSION OF HIV THROUGH INTACT SKIN NOT BEEN DOCUMENTED ( your case is in this category , so don't take unnecessary tension and you are HIV free).
You can read from Harrison's Internal medicine 16th edition volume 1 page no. 1081 for your confirmation.
Hope this will be helpful for you.
Good luck.
