What Are The Chances Of HIV Through Protected Sex?

Hiv Testing at 6-8 Weeks. i am a 18 year old female who's always been terrified of HIV I took a test around 6-8 weeks how sure can I be that I am positive. I had sex with one guy around 6 times in 2 nights and I slept with two other guys (but I did use protection) I had symptoms THE DAY AFTER sex but I know they cannot accure that fast. I have braces and my gums look like they have a white film on them no lympnodes or anything. Am i driving myself crazy with the fear? Could i have HIV? or do I need to go see a therapist to get over my anxienty??

Hello dear,

First of all, HIV can not be diagnosed only on the basis of symptoms.

The chances of acquiring HIV occurs in 2 cases:
1. If your partner is affected with HIV
2. If there is any cut/raw surface in your skin/ mucosa through which the infection can spread.

If the above mentioned criteria doesn't hold true for your case, then there is no need to worry about getting HIV.

However, to relieve your concern, you can undergo certain tests like p24 assay or PCR for HIV, which becomes positive within a week and are almost 100 % sensitive.
Even the presence of a single virus in the body can be detected by PCR.
So, if this test comes negative, you can be sure that you are safe.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
