What Are The Chances Of Conception At The Age Of 42 While On Metformin?

I am 42 years old and had the Paragard IUD removed 3 months ago. I would like to get pregnant again. My period is one week late, but my pregnancy test has come back negative. Also, I take Metaformin for type II diabetes. I was just diagnosed with diabetes 2 month ago. What are my chances? Any suggestions other than seeing a fertility specialist?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There is a low probability of conception at 42 years old. But you should not be unmotivated. I suggest to try conception yourself for six month and then refer to a fertility specialist. The chances of conception with treatment are 25% after 40 years old.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
