What Are The Chances Of Living If A Person Stops Eating?
Hi My step father has been in and out of the hospital 6 times in the past 9 months , he is a heavy smoker an alcoholic , has chf ,emphysema wont stop drinking or smoking wont take his meds anymore doesnt eat much cant remember anything . I think he is giving up. what are his chances of living.
His chances of living much longer are poor. He has multiple life-threatening conditions he is not taking care of, and indeed is doing things to aggravate them. You may be correct that he is giving up, which means he is getting ready to die. People can live many weeks without eating before they starve to death. Have you thought about getting him into a nursing home where they can keep a close eye on him, be sure he eats and takes his medicines? Otherwise I am afraid not much more can be done for him. My prayers are with you and your stepfather.
