What Are The Chances Of Malignancy In A Dead Testicle?

i was told one of my tecticles is dead. my urologist says it must be removed. What are the odds that it is cancerous and the odds that the other testicle will be affected. SECOND, I WAS TOLD THAT HAVING ONE TESTICLE REMOVED, IT THEN HAS A BIOPSY TO CHECK FOR CANCER , IF IT IS CANCEROUS DOES THAT MEAN THERES A GOOD CHANCE THE OTHER TESTICLE IS CANCEROUS OR WILL BECOME CANCEROUS? aND LAST JUST HAVING ONE DEAD TESTICLE REMOVED I WAS TOLD ITS DONE ON A OUT PATIENT BASIS, ITS ABOUT 45-50 MIN SURGERY AND YOU GO HOME THE SAME DAY. iS THIS TRUE? please help me!!

Pediatric Surgeon 's  Response
Hi, a dead thing inside the body is a potential source of infection, so it should be removed. Second, it is very important to know whether the thing is really dead. It has to be checked by a srotal ultrasound and doppler study before going for surgery. Third, if it is dead, then a biopsy may help to understand the likely cause of its becoming dead and whether that cause can effect the other testis also. Fourth, usually one of the testis is involved in cancers of the testis but still 2-5% chance is present is there for a bilateral disease involving the disease. Fifth, the dead testis is usually seen in torsion of the testis and not in a cancer. Sixth, removal of testis, can be done as as out patient procedure and the patient can be discharged on the same day.
