Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a 60 year old male, On 3 different visits to the doctor, my bp has been up.(190/115). They say that I have left ventricular hypertrophy and retinal hemorrhages, so now they have put me on a low sodium diet, exercise and told me I could only have 1 beer a day. Needless to say, that did not help so they have put me on an oral diuretic and a beta blocker, and a vasodilator to decrease my bp
Hi, Welcome to HCM, I understand your concern and appreciate your effort to modify the diet for the control of hypertension. The main cause for the high BP is high quantity of Sodium contents in the food- which is usually we will take in form of salty foods. People with High BP should not take salt more than 3gram/day. So avoid food containing higher salt contents such pickle, pappads, cheese, salami, salted and dry roasted nuts salt fish and smoked fish, soy sauce, gravy granules, stock cubes and yeast extract. Along with diet modification do cardiac exercises after consultation with your physician and continue the treatment as well since at this high BP only diet will not helps in bringing down the BP. Do the follow up regularly for BP recording.
I hope this Information is helpful, have a nice day and take care.
